Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help bring my students into the 21st century with 3D printing technology! This exciting new technology would both fascinate my students and motivate them to take part in project based learning in the classroom. We have the printer, but need your help in replenishing our stock of plastic filament.
Although my students are young, they are very bright and love projects and learning tasks that involve hands-on materials.
The class consists of students that are learning English for the first time, students that have learning disabilities and require special services, and typical learning students. Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with a large percentage of students that qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. The children are dreamers, problem solvers, and love to work together in social situations.
My Project
Last year we made many things with our 3D printer. Our favorite were the little heart puzzle boxes that the children filled with chocolates and presented to their families for Valentine's Day. Using the online Makerbot software, we are able to design and create almost anything to be printed in 3D with the plastic filament. We used up most of our stock, and need help replenishing it so that this year's class can learn from and use the printer.
We are also in need of 2 mice to use for our laptops. The mice are easier for the children to use than the touch keyboard on the laptops, which makes it easier for them to use the laptop. With the mice, they will be able to access and use the new Dreambox math program our school recently purchased. This program helps increase student achievement in math.
