My Students

Our school motto is "Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader." We strive to teach all of our students that their voice makes a difference in our world. What our students learn today will stay with them throughout their lives. The Internet is the hands-on learning tool for our newest generation of learners.

My K-5th grade Title I public school is in a rural area located a few miles from the beautiful coast of North Carolina.

We serve many English as a second language students and have a diverse group of learners. As in most rural communities, jobs are scarce and money is tight. With statewide district cuts we must make the most of our supplies. My Kindergarten students are very aware of their coastal surroundings and work towards keeping their community environmentally clean for the abundant wildlife and natural resources. They recycle weekly and want to learn more about energy conversation. Technology is something missing in many of their homes mainly because we are in a rural area. My students come to school expecting the latest in educational technology.

My Project

I am requesting printer ink cartridges, 60 lb. cardstock paper, and 4 USB flash drives for my students to complete their digital work. My students this year expect technology to be at the core of their learning. At the same time, they expect creativity and color and all of the arts to be included with their studies. There are supplies that we need to have to do all of this. One is ink cartridges. I have told my students that we need to conserve our ink the way we conserve our paper and everyday supplies. My students tell me they will invent something that will take the place of expensive cartridges and I believe they will. We also need 60 lb. cardstock to print cover pages for their polar animal research and books they make. The flash drives will be used by each of the 4 tables in our room to hold their work. I try and teach the whole child, which means a child educated in all aspects of life.

Education is so important in our world today.

To be able to read, comprehend, and use critical thinking skills to make meaning of events is crucial for each individual. Technology is a path that all students want to follow and it must be at the forefront of a teacher's lessons. My students need these supplies to continue their studies. Thank you so much for considering our project!
