This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember the first book you read independently? Wasn't it the most amazing feeling to visualize the characters and places described? My non-readers wish to also have this experience.
My students come from a high-poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.
My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on. Many of my students are English Language Learners that attend a public school. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.
My Project
The kindergarten through 2nd grade students that come to the learning center are struggling readers; thus, they are not able to access grade level texts. The Hamilton audio station will be a vital tool that will provide the students with modeled phrasing, sight word practice, exposure to a variety of story structures (genres), access to grade level and higher text levels as they listen to audio books and engage in rich discussions that will lead towards successful reading.
The Hamilton audio station will allow my students to listen to their favorite books again and again.
They will no longer fear reading; instead, they will joyfully pick up a book. Help my students unlock their literacy skills!
