My Project
Working with an eager group of second graders is what makes me want to improve and provide the best learning environment for my students. I am fortunate to teach a group of enthusiastic, curious, and compassionate second graders in a culturally diverse public school in the Bay Area. Our school is one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings within our district, but it has its faults because the classrooms are not designed for students in the 21st century. Also, due to the lack of funds in our school district, we are not able to make many updates to our school and materials. The materials we are requesting will be replacing our old set of headphones to new lightweight and comfortable headphones for students to use with their class Chromebooks. This year our school district has adopted a new assessment for the lower grades in which they will be using Chromebooks to assess their reading. Unfortunately, we do not have enough headphones for the class to be able to administer the assessment at once. Having a new set of headphones for the students to use will be extremely helpful so that they will be able to focus on their own assessment, and not have to worry about what others are doing around them. Also, having the same headphones will also eliminate any arguments about who will get what headphones. We are also requesting a set of seat cushions for students to use during Reading Workshop. The seats will allow me to have a small group of readers read in a different area of the classroom. Our school is an old school with cement floors, and having these seat cushions would definitely help!
