My Project

It may seem odd, an English teacher, requesting headphones, but... there is a method to my madness.

I have a student, who is a very artistic and old soul, who has trouble relating to others socially, and has requested these items as a way of dealing with their existential crisis.

Simply put: I try and make sure that my students' needs are met, whatever they may be: academically, professionally (at their jobs that they work at night), physically (making sure they are fed and that I always have a first-aid kit handy)... but especially emotionally and artistically.

This falls into that later category.

This student is very special to me, as I've had them in class since they were sophomores (they are now a senior).

This student is a senior and is graduating this year and they are having a hard time dealing with the social situations around them.

Furthermore, this student uses music as a way to help them focus (and blot out the boisterous students who distract them from learning).

So, this project actually serves two functions: providing for an academic and a social/emotional need.

This is a sort of both a graduation present for this student, and a way to help them make it through (as they find great solace in music) their last year in high school.
