My Students
The students I provide speech and language services for are from a diverse population of varying socio-economic backgrounds on Staten Island. The students are working to better their speech, language, phonemic awareness and communication skills so that they can improve their academic performance and interactions with peers and adults. My students' grade levels can range from pre-k through 5th grade, however, I am currently servicing students in pre-k through 2nd grade with the majority of students in kindergarten. Many of my students require one on one and small group instruction to help them reach their goals.
My students may have difficulty attending to tasks, processing language or have sensory needs.
My Project
My students need room dividers to create a small quiet area to focus on small group communication and improving speech and language skills. Specifically, a whiteboard room divider, can be used to enhance multisensory learning as it can be used for writing, drawing and working with magnetic hands-on manipulatives. My students are currently working in a large classroom that is shared with other students and teachers. They require a smaller, quieter space to reduce distractions and improve their attention to tasks. The whiteboard and room divider will help to section off the room into a smaller learning environment and create a quiet speech corner.
