My Project

As a second-year teacher, I’ve seen firsthand how much the classroom environment shapes student learning and behavior. My second graders are curious, energetic, and eager to learn—but they also need a calm, flexible space where they can focus and feel safe. That’s why I’m requesting a classroom rug, saddle chairs, and tennis balls for chair legs. These items will help me create a welcoming environment that supports student choice, reduces distractions, and fosters a sense of comfort and belonging.

Flexible seating and a quiet space can transform how students learn and interact.

Saddle chairs will allow my students to wiggle and move in ways that help them stay focused without disrupting others. A cozy rug will serve as a calm area for reading and group learning, while tennis balls on chair legs will muffle the constant scraping sounds that often fill the classroom. Together, these tools will reduce sensory distractions, helping all students—especially those with attention or sensory needs—stay engaged and feel at ease.

My students are special because they come from diverse backgrounds and bring unique strengths to our classroom every day. They are creative, resilient, and eager to grow. With your support, I can give them the peaceful, flexible learning environment they deserve—one that helps them feel valued, focused, and ready to succeed.
