Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are unique in their personalities and background but deeply connected in their commitment to learning more about the world and discovering their role in it.
My students are active learners invested in working together in creative ways to share what they are learning and truly teach others.
They share a deep interest in the world and make the most of every learning activity I provide to them, and even better they work together to create their own enriching experiences.
My Project
These resources will support an upcoming class project for fall celebrating hispanic heritage month in which we will study the work of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera and make work of our own inspired by these artists.
These materials will help students use art as tool to reflect and represent both their individual and community culutures, identities, and heritage.
As a spanish language arts educator in a dual language school with a diverse classroom I find it essential to provide students an opportunity to learn more about themselves and their community and then share what they discover through their art. Studying Frida will guide them to represent themselves through self portraits and Studing the murals of Diego Rivera will serve as inspiration for representing our community and culture through mural art.
Students will get the opportunity to study signficant art from Latin America, make connections between that art and themselves, and share what they have learned through their art. The project will culminate with a school gallery opening and an exhibition at local community art fair so students can share and celebrate who they are and where they come from with both the school and local community.
