FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Jones's classroom raised $863

I am a special education teacher in a Title I school. Our children are generally considered at risk. Many of my 16 special needs students experience difficulty writing down their thoughts in a manner that can be easily read. These particular students are receiving Occupational Therapy (OT)with slow or minimal results. I teach 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. Because of their cognitive challenges, they are very frustrated when it comes to writing. I believe that this type of assistive technology will enhance my students' ability to write better. I have six students in particular who have visual/spatial deficits and writing is a challenge for them. In fact, when I begin to introduce a writing project, most sigh and moan or develop a reason that they need to see the school nurse. My parents are very concerned about their child's ability to write. In this regard, I am asking for at least 3 Quickpad Keyboard keyboards to assist these students in developing their writing, and thinking skills. I believe that since most children like the computer, that my students who are reluctant to write will enjoy using the Quickpad Keyboard keyboard and that it will take the pain out of the writing process for them. For example, I have one male 4th grader who cannot write because his hand constantly shakes as he is trying to form letters and provide the proper spacing between words. I think that he and other students will be more receptive to writing with pen or pencil and paper if they are allowed to get their thoughts and express proper writing forms with success through the Quickpad Keyboard keyboard. In addition, most student work in the 21st century is done on wordprocessors and this will provide exposure to my students on using these types of devices to prepare papers etc. The Quickpad Keyboard can be connected a classroom computer and the students work downloaded for printing. This also teaches the child about writing technology, because it is he or she who would be downloading and printing their documents. The Quickpad would be used in Writing Centers each day.
I would like my struggling writers to experience success in writing projects. I would like their writing projects to reflect what some of them do very well verbally, and that is to express their thoughts. If they were to experience this type of success, I am sure that I can encourage more creative writing and expression of the individual feelings. In addition, their confidence level will surely excel.
