This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The majority of the student's come from low-income households and lack resources. They are less likely to read every day than are children in families with incomes at or above poverty. This is a sad fact, and our students are living it. Our school is made up of over 300 students, and unfortunately, almost all of our students fall into this category.

They are fun-loving, thoughtful, and full of curiosity.

They have big goals for themselves and I want to support them along their journeys!

My Project

Reading aloud is the foundation for literacy development. It's one of the most important things teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about. Providing a variety of books, my students will have the opportunity to develop their reading comprehension skills, fluency and learn new vocabulary in Spanish. Students benefit from hearing an experienced reading of a wonderful book and these books will also allow my students develop the joy of reading.
