My students need various math board games to reinforce different math skills taught in the classroom. The games focus on multiplication, division, fractions, and more.
How motivated would you have been to learn in elementary school if learning was fun? I am lucky enough to teach during an era where many fun activities are available to enhance a child's learning. Making learning fun really works and gets kids motivated to learn.
The students that I have had the honor of teaching for the past thirteen years are mostly children who come from other countries.
Their parents are immigrants and many of their parents do not even speak English. The public school that I teach at is located in New York in a lower-socio economic community where 93% of the children receive free breakfast and lunch. A large percentage of the children are ESL learners - which means they are trying to grasp the English language. Beginning in third grade, these children are required to take the state exams which they need to pass to be promoted. If a child is in the public school system for a year and a day, they are held to the same promotional criteria as the other children regardless of whether or not they know English. Due to this fact, teaching and reaching these children is that much more difficult.
My Project
In order to help these children succeed, I need to find different ways of helping them understand and motivating them to learn. Children of all ages would rather learn from hands on experience as opposed to just being talked to. In my experience, they learn faster when they are given something tangible. They love to explore. This motivates them to do well and put in their best efforts.
Playing games is an easy way to motivate children.
Every child loves the excitement of playing a game. These educational math games will inspire my children to do well in the area of mathematics. It also teaches them how to get along with each other, share and help each other. I know your donation will be put to good use every day in my classroom. You will be helping to educate the future of America!
