During the hot months in New York City, my room gets so hot that it is really hard for my students to concentrate on their school work.
I have 26 first graders who love to question and learn.
In our school, 57% of the students receive free or reduced price meals. My students come from very diverse backgrounds. Some of them are bilingual and others are learning a new language. They are amazing writers and mathematicians and love doing art and hands-on activities.
My Project
We need an air conditioner for our classroom, so my students can have a comfortable place to learn when it is hot and steamy outside. We have tried to ventilate the room but we have no cross ventilation, so there is very little air flow. It is hard for first graders to function while it is so hot and stuffy.
Our school recently lost their Title I funding, but we still have a large population of students that receive free lunch.
With the loss of funding, we are not able to buy equipment or anything apart from covering the basic needs for the classroom. Donors like you have supported our classroom in multiple ways and have made a big difference to my students. I hope we can count on you one more time to bring a cool and comfortable environment to our classroom.
