This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I have the privilege of being the music teacher this school year here at Roosevelt Elementary.
Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch and parents are not able to afford instruments or supplies for students personal use.
My students are super excited to have music back at Roosevelt and have shown interest in various instruments like recorders, pianos and violins. This semester, we are hoping that donors can help our little bears immerse themselves in everything music with hands the on experience of having their own instruments.
My Project
Here at our school, we are reintroducing music and instruments to our students. A school set of recorders will give each student in grades 3 through 5 the opportunity to enjoy and immerse themselves in not only learning music theory but playing instruments fluently and confidently.
Recorders which are apart of the woodwind instrument family will be the students first hands-on instrument in this family With the use of our Quaver curriculum and Kodaly, I hope to give each student a lasting experience that will hopefully encourage them to move on to higher level woodwind instruments like flutes and clarinets!
