My Students

Our Hawaii, elementary school orchestra has been open to students in grades 3-6. Younger students are also joining this 3rd Quarter and we are in need of a quarter-sized violin so that the younger students have an appropriate-sized instrument to learn on.

We are a public elementary school orchestra in Hawaii.

The orchestra program has grown to approximately 70 students. They are students eager to learn and can't wait to learn to play an instrument. Many cannot afford to purchase their own instrument and need financial assistance and are on free and reduced lunch. The school is 50% military. We appreciate our military personnel.

My Project

The quarter-sized violin will enable these eager young students to play on an instrument that is of the proper size for them. It will enable younger students to be able to play in the school orchestra. Music has many positive benefits to the life of a child. Research indicates that these benefits are far greater, the younger the child. Students learn not only about music, but about life and it affects the cognitive, psychomotor, emotional, social, language, and musical domains of learning. Learning to play the violin stimulates the motor region of the brain. Students learn to read music and become musically literate. Students learn to play music of various genres. They learn about history and composers. Students work together as a team to play music. It fosters positive social interaction. Students must have self-discipline to practice to become proficient. They learn responsibility and perseverance. The gift of music lasts for a lifetime.

The gift of the quarter-sized violin will be a gift that keeps on giving for years to come and affecting dozens, and dozens of students.

Learning to play the violin will foster positive self esteem, helps in child development, and makes children smarter. To paraphrase the words of master music teacher Shinichi Suzuki, we teach not only music, but we teach music to create beautiful hearts and people. The music will help to make this world a better place. Please give a child the gift of music.
