Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
They are funny. They can even be annoying, especially when they ask me each morning, "What are we going to do today?" Yet, I am reminded that they are in middle school, and these are some of the most challenging times of their lives as they begin to grow into their adult selves and expand their understanding of themselves and each other.
Each student is a work in progress, and in three year's time, they will not even recognize how far they have journeyed.
My Project
Limited electronics. Faulty wi-fi. Lack of engagement. Are some of the struggles we are facing. I want quality books in my kids' hands. We need tangible materials to give to kids to keep them engaged and learning during this process.
I want a class novel that we can center around.
I am an 8th grade English teacher and I remember the power of a shared text that fosters discussions and creates classroom unity. "Down These Mean Streets” was one of my favorite books growing up, and I want to share that experience with my students.
