This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 4th graders are full of energy, and most of all eager to learn. Our school is an inner city school with 97% of the population qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch. These kids come to school excited and ready to give it their all.
Many are English learners working hard to reach their English goals to reclassify and be proficient in English with little support at home.
My students enjoy spending time at school many times because school is the one places they feel safe and taken care of. They come ready to tackle any academic challenge they come across. It is a great experience as a teacher to see how they take ownership of their learning throughout the year.
My Project
My students find themselves learning from home due to COVID-19. The last day we had class in a our classroom, we did not know it would be the last time we would all be in that classroom. As they left that day the took home, work for two weeks worth. Now that it seems like learning from home will be taking place until the end of the school year, my students do not have the basic school supplies to support their learning.
Having basic school supplies not only will help continue to support my student's learning, but it would also bring smiles to their faces.
Many of them are at home when school was their one place where they felt the safest.
