My students are imaginative and fun-loving kids. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.
My students and I have embarked on the distance learning journey!
We are actively engaging in all sorts of different online platforms and learning new things. My students and I participate twice a week in Zoom meetings review material, and to check in with each other. We have not introduced new material because not all students have access to technology and time conflicting with essential working parents. In addition, I am recording lessons at home for them to view and continue to learn new material. I am amazed by their level of engagement and participation, and families' willingness to try new things.
My Project
During the pandemic many students are unable to complete assignments due to lack of resources and/or they have essential working parents. While we understand that taking care of the home may be number one priority for many, with these materials students will have the opportunity to stay on track. These materials will minimize the gap of missed in-person instruction and be a lift for working parents. Having their own set of crayons and journal allows them to continue to practice handwriting and the phonics book allows for the students to continue to grow literacy skills.
