My Students
I teach third grade to a group of wonderful students! I teach at a Title I school where most of my children live in poverty. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast and free lunch because the students cannot afford to pay for their lunches.
Many of these students lack the basic necessities (electricity, running water, clean clothes, even food).
Even though they come from these circumstances, these students come to school excited to learn and ready for the challenges that are given to them.
We work daily in our classroom to close the achievement gaps through small group instruction as well as whole group instruction. Our school is a Leader in Me School. Our goal is to promote leadership in all students and help develop the whole child. As an educator, I am always looking for a way to make sure I am meeting the needs of each and every student in my classroom. I believe it is important to provide an equal opportunity for all children to succeed in school. All students need to feel success so they know they are capable of success.
My Project
The books like Finding Winnie, Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun, Hoop Genius, Crow Boy, and Pinduli will help develop my students as a whole child. These books will serve as mentor texts for reading, writing, and character education. Through these books, I will be able to teach high-quality lessons which will increase student's reading and writing ability.
As an educator, it is important that each student is able to access high-quality literature.
Each of these books will serve as a mentor text that my students can go back and refer to in their reading, writing, and character education lessons.
Each of these books will not only benefit my students with their reading and writing but also in their character education. Each of these books displays strong characters who overcome some of the same obstacles as my students.
These books will be in a place where students will have easy access to. Students will be invited to refer back to these books throughout the year when they are in reading and writing.
