Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Magnet school with a diverse population that reflects Los Angeles County. Half of my students ride the bus in from various parts of Los Angeles County. Most of our school receive free or reduced price lunch.
My students are motivated and diligent students.
I not only have an ethnically diverse class, but I also have a class with varying academic abilities. I have students who have been identified with special needs as well as students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities. My students come with a keen interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Our school's goal is to prepare every child to be college and career ready, especially in the areas of STEAM.
My Project
My students love reading and listening to quality books. My students always look forward to our Interactive Read Aloud time on the rug every day. They also enjoy discussing the book during our circle time and partner turn and talk opportunities to discuss their favorite parts of the story or to answer guiding questions that I pose to the class about the story.
My students especially value books that teach the themes of friendship, kindness, empathy and tolerance.
These books create unique opportunities for engaging conversations and discussions while teaching the value of the golden rule. My students love our Interactive Read Aloud time and if we receive our books, we will have enough quality books to read for the entire school year.
