This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Are you aware of all of the technology that surrounds us? Well my students are and the computers in our classroom seem like outdated material to them. However, the possibility of my students actually being able to have updated technology in their homes is not very likely.
The students at my school are in a low SES school district.
With the way technology continues to change I think it is only fair that they are able to keep up with the digital age. Most of them see commercials on television at home, but not many of them are able to actually have the latest technology in their homes. If I were able to supply a minimal amount of new technology in my classroom I feel my students could be better engaged during certain lessons.
My Project
By downloading a free QR code scanner to each new iPod, I will be able to upload information from a number of subjects using the computer generated QR codes I will create online. The codes can hold any information I input and it helps to take away from the everyday paper and pencil activities and boring folder games and will engage my students with the technology that will be at their fingertips. I will also be able to use the codes to input higher order thinking questions to go along with any lessons taught in class. I used QR codes before in a second grade classroom, during student teaching, for a math activity I created. The students were in groups and were given teacher cellphones equipped with QR scanners. I had stations set up around the room each with 2 or more QR codes that I generated at each station. I assessed the students on how well they were able to line their numbers up for double digit addition as well as finding the sum for each equation.
As stated before I think it is important that my students are able to keep up with what technology has to offer.
Not only will I be able to use the iPods as QR code scanners, but there are a number of free programs that can be downloaded and used in guided reading groups as well as intervention groups. The possibilities are endless when my students will be able to have the world at their fingertips.
