My Project
Help me give my students a wide variety of puzzles and logic games to revive the lost art of puzzling—an engaging way to build critical and creative thinking skills.
My students are bright, curious, and eager to tackle challenges.
I teach a Critical and Creative Thinking class where we explore how to think logically, solve problems creatively, and collaborate with others. But in a world of fast answers and digital distractions, the art of puzzling—slow, thoughtful, and deeply engaging—is often forgotten.
Puzzles are a lost art. Once a common pastime, they’ve been replaced by screens and shortcuts. Yet puzzles build the exact skills we want our students to develop:
1. critical thinking through logic, strategy, and pattern recognition
2. creative thinking through flexible problem-solving and trial-and-error
3. collaboration through teamwork and communication on complex tasks
4. perseverance through productive struggle and delayed gratification
To bring this art form back into our classroom, I want to create a Puzzle Lab filled with tactile, thought-provoking tools—puzzles that can’t be Googled, games that demand real focus, and challenges that spark “aha!” moments.
What do we need? We need classic and modern logic puzzles (ThinkFun, Brainwright, SmartGames) and a Lakeshore all-purpose teaching cart for storage and ease in transporting puzzles to different classrooms.
