My students need creative thinking, hands-on puzzles such as the Ball of Whacks and Perplexus.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Kaiser's classroom raised $500

My Students
When adults walk in my room they often express a desire to have had a classroom like mine when they were going through school. Thanks to donors like you, I have created a really fun learning space and would like to keep the momentum going.
The students who enter my classroom on a daily basis have been identified as gifted.
Each week, I work with more than 50 students in grades 3-5 that simply thrive on challenging experiences. In their regular classrooms, these students are high achievers. These students attend a globally themed Chinese Immersion school. Although these students have demonstrated gifted characteristics, they need our support. These students have diverse home lives that range from military deployment, single parent families, poverty, and custody battles to more stable situations. In order to ensure that these students continue to work up to their potential, it is important that they spend time with like-minded peers.
My Project
This school year, I pulled a couple of puzzles and critical thinking games out of my closet. I placed these items on top of a bookshelf without really giving them much consideration. To my surprise, students have been drawn to these items. Unfortunately, I only had a couple of items and everyone wants to get their hands on them. The Whack a Ball magnetic activity has a book full of critical thinking and visual tests that engage students in higher level thinking while manipulating the pieces. The Perplexus maze challenges students to manipulate the ball through a course. I would like to have more of these items to allow more time for each student to test their skills.
I should have expected my students to be drawn to the Whack a Ball and Perplexus when I placed them on the bookshelf because some of them have learned to solve the Rubik's Cube in less than a minute and a half!
Please help me to continue making my classroom a place where everyone wants to come and learn. Funding these puzzles will make a big difference in my ability to challenge the problem solving ability of my gifted students. Thank you.
