This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first grade students are beginning to learn how to read. It is essential for me to teach reading in small groups. While I am working with a small group, the other students have to work independently or in small groups. They need puzzles and games that will reinforce learning skills.

My first grade students live in a high poverty area in East Harlem, New York.

A large population of the students live in shelters. They have a strong desire to learn and really enjoy being in school. They love playing games and listening to stories.

My Project

I would love to have puzzles and games that are engaging, educational and fun. These puzzles and games will motivate them to work independently and in small groups. This will enable me to teach intensive reading in small groups while they construct educational puzzles and build their social skills while playing games.

By having thirty first graders in a classroom, it is vital for teachers to teach reading in small groups.

While the teacher is working with one reading group, the other students must be engaged. Therefore, it would be beneficial to have puzzles and games to keep them focused on learning.
