This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Kindergarten in New York. The students in my classroom live in a high-need community and are attending school for the first time.
My students have difficulty with problem-solving skills and sequencing. The students usually do not have the opportunity or materials to establish higher level thinking skills that would require hands-on materials versus just pencil and paper tasks.
The floor puzzles would give the students a chance to work on these skills as well as having these puzzles as an educational resource for them. The puzzles can help the students who are struggling with the alphabet learn the letters, and sequence of the letters of the alphabet. It would also challenge the higher level thinking students with problem solving and making predictions as to what pieces go together.
These puzzles would not only be a hands-on activity for the students to do in class but it will be very educational for them as well. At this young age students need that mix and it allows them to step away from their desks, socialize with their friends as they still remain in an educational environment and do something fun as they learn at the same time.
