iPads have been an important part of my classroom for many years. Unfortunately, my school district deemed all of my devices 'obsolete' and took them away.
iPads have been used for many things in my classroom and, with their use, allow me to teach math and reading in small groups.
These fantastic tools allow students to engage in STEM activities such as OSMO, Meeper Bots, LEGO WeDo and various apps that focus on specific math skills. They also allow my students to partake in reading, writing and handwriting practice, using various apps.
iPads are small and touch enabled, which makes it much easier and faster for kids to interact with the screen, versus a Chromebook or laptop. iPads are easily portable, especially when students are taking pictures and recording videos of their learning to post on SeeSaw, versus a Chromebook or laptop.
I also like to share technology with our entire student population so we can do things like Family LEGO night and after-school STEM classes, which increase access for more students at my school.
My students are 'digital natives' with limited dexterity and fine motor control, which makes using iPads all the more necessary in my classroom.
