This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach an extraordinary group of middle school students in the Bronx. I believe that my students and all students have so much potential and I want to use that to enhance their future both inside and out of education. My students are very diverse both in their variety of cultures, their needs and their learning styles which makes my job the best in the world.
My students constantly keep me on my toes and their curious minds teach me something new every day.
Most of my students are living in poverty; most of my students have insecure housing; most of my students are either immigrants or first-generation Americans; and most of my students have experienced trauma in their lives; all of my students are exceptional individuals who show up each and every day, ready to learn.
My Project
My students are growing up in the information age, they are constantly exposed to the newest and advanced technology. Whether it is the latest gaming device, tablet or smart phone-- they know it all. However, these technologies are not available in school and my students do not know how to utilize technology as a resource to benefit their education. As a STEM educator, I am very well informed of new technologies, applications and devices out there to enhance my classroom yet, our school budget does not have an allowance for these resources.
Although my school has internet access, technology is not easily accessible to my students.
With Chromebook computers, my students will be able to make productive use of online tools and information to develop students' scientific investigation, research and communication skills. For example students will have practice with digital graphing, data analysis, visualization of concepts, practice with scientific writing and communication through written and formal lab reports. Computers will transform my students into modern day scientists.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
