The students in my classroom all come from different backgrounds, family dynamics, socioeconomic statuses, religions, and belief systems. Some have never known hunger, and others don't know where their next meal will come from. Some take care of younger brothers and sisters after school. Some have stay at home moms that are there to help with homework when they get home. Some have parents that work two and three jobs to make sure their needs are met. Some have computers at home. Others are homeless. Some are the first English speakers in their families. Some are refugees.
However, my students all have one thing in common--they come to school each day, bright eyed, and ready to learn.
I draw inspiration from their enthusiasm to tackle each day, no matter what other circumstances they are dealing with.
My Project
We all know that tablets and technology are a part of our world that isn't going away. One thing that we have noticed with the growth in technology, is that many children come to us knowing how to work a phone or a tablet, but have not had the opportunity to do things like puzzles that help to grow their problem solving and fine motor skills. We have some big floor puzzles, but we need to work up to that. With these puzzles, we will be able to start with 12 pieces and move on from there. The bins in this are durable and will show the children what is inside. Our hope is that seeing the blocks we have will spark their imaginations! The magnetic gears in this project seem like just the engineering manipulative that we've been missing! They will make a perfect addition to our STEM station!
