My Project

My special learners are working on learning functional skills for greater independence in their daily life! Functional skills can include sorting, matching, assembly, sequencing, managing clothing fasteners, tying shoes, making shopping lists, telling time, managing money, and mastering their emotions. The list of functional skills can go on forever. My special learners are behind in gaining some of these skills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since COVID-19 I have observed an increase in anxiety and worry in my students. I plan to use the items obtained through your generosity to teach my special learners as many of these functional skills as I can.

Putting “FUN" in functional makes learning life skills exciting!

Playing games that involve sorting and matching can be so much fun. So many of my special learners are struggling to understand their emotions and feelings. The "A Little Spot" series of books will help break down all of these emotions and feelings and help my special learners better understand themselves. My special learners won’t realize that they are working on lifelong skills that help them achieve greater independence. Your generosity will help me put the "FUN" in functional for my special learners.

Through your generosity I can't wait to see my special learners master these functional skills for greater independence in their daily life! Mastering these functional skills will give their self-esteem a boost and give them confidence that carries over in all areas of their lives!
