My Project
Making art means so much more to my students when it is personal. When they see a reflection or some piece of themselves in their artwork, my students are motivated to explore further and test waters where they may never have waded in before.
Carving their own initials, in their own style into a block of linoleum or rubber delights students of all ages but middle-schoolers in particular revel in creating a permanent stamping/printing block to create and recreate their own mark.
The tools I have requested will allow my students to not only create but to keep their own printing block. Carving is the perfect way to study and put into practice the concept of positive and negative space while working on fine motor skills. My classes will create a large class cooperative piece, and afterward, students will be able to keep their blocks with which they can stamp for years to come.
