My Project

This year, I introduced a designated table for completing puzzles in the classroom. It has since become a popular activity for students who have extra time after work is completed as well as for those who need a cool down or change of focus. Taking the time to focus on the puzzle has been a great way to redirect students who may be overhelmed or overstimulated.

In addition, there are so many benefits to putting puzzles together.

Researchers at Yale have found that working on jigsaw puzzles could help reduce stress and can result in improved cooperation and collaboration. Working together on a common task is a great way for the students to bond with peers they may not otherwise spend time with. Jigsaw puzzles have also been linked to keeping the mind sharp, including maintaining short-term memory, decision making, and planning skills.

While the current table has allowed this hobby to develop, puzzle pieces are easily lost and there is not much room to sort the pieces. With a puzzle table, there would be more room to put the puzzles together, along with side drawers to organize and store pieces. I would also like to purchase a few puzzles to add to our currently very small collection.
