My Students

We are a middle school drama / speech department serving grades 6 - 8.

Our title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income. Though our students struggle at times to succeed, they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment. We have an after school drama club program where students can participate in 2 full length plays, improv team, speech team and Thespian society for free (no activity fees). This program allows students of all ability levels and learning types to play a role in the creative process. We try to find a place for any child interested in the performing arts. Not only do we put students on stage, but backstage as well. Students are responsible for just about every aspect of the creative process: sound, set, props, costumes, makeup, and lights are all made / executed by the theater students.

My Project

My students need a followspot with stand to light our performers. We usually rent two followspots for each performance. The company often charges a high delivery fee as well. Our school tries to support us in every way they can. In the past, they have paid for followspot rentals for us. This year, the activity fund ran out.

We have had one followspot funded by DonorsChoose.

If we had a second followspot, we could ensure that every play production and choir concert can use followspots regardless of available funds. Your donation will help us provide quality lighting to match our students' passion for performance.
