My Students

We are an inquisitive, fun, smart, and excited community of learners. We are diverse in every sense of the word - culturally, economically, racially, linguistically. Our school was rated one of the most diverse schools in Oakland, pulling from many socioeconomic levels. We are proud of our cooperation and support of the children. We come together in the classroom to create a common learning community.

We need paper books now, more than ever, in this time of technology based distance learning!

We exist online competently (our district is based on Google Drive accounts and Chromebooks), but our minds and eyes need paper books to deepen literacy and learn about our world.

My Project

In this time of returning to the classroom, reading paper books and having literacy circles is an effective way to catch up on learning. We did OK during our year of distance learning, but everyone experienced a loss in some way. Now that we are back in the classroom we are learning about basic literacy with each other as a support.

Holding literacy circles invigorates us to read and study literature with much motivation and depth.

Literature teaches deep lessons about life, beyond the skill of literacy, but literacy is taught while we learn about stories and life!
