My Project
We are always looking for new ways to engage students and student learning. It has been scientifically proven in order for students to be skilled readers they need tools to unlocking new and unfamiliar vocabulary. The Science of Reading emphasizes the importance of teaching vocabulary which includes phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. Using a paper dictionary helps students acquire a broader vocabulary, teaches correct spelling and spelling patterns, and fosters reading comprehension. Looking up just one word in a dictionary inadvertently exposes a student to many other words, meanings, uses, and other information. I would like to provide my students with a class set of dictionaries to help boost learning in the classroom. Flashcards are a popular way to study. Science flashcards will give students various ways to study the material, for the various topics of study. Using flashcards to self-test will help students learn information, and will also help to identify any weak spots students may have with the material.
