My Students
My students are a large group of curious readers from Brooklyn, NY. These 8th grade students love to debate and love to make connections between what they read and what they learn in other subjects. In addition, they are also always making connections to the real world. Many of my students do not have the resources or the support at home to purchase their own copies of books, so I am constantly searching for ways to put books in their hand-- even if it means buying them the books myself.
My Project
My students need a variety of independent reading material that will be engaging and interesting. So many of these young adults would like to spend time with a great book, but do not have the resources or the support to purchase a book on their own.
The engaging, contemporary and thoughtful books in this project will reach dozens of young readers, and will inspire the confidence needed to make reading a part of their every day lives.
The books and supplies in this project will help these students with their literary discussions, cooperative learning projects and individual essays! Most importantly, these books will be remembered for years to come.
