This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 6th grade EL class is very special to me. As a second year teacher, I have learned to develop a sixth sense that helps me connect with them not only academically but also by creating a loving classroom environment. My students are not only struggling to learn the English language, but also deal with external factors. Most of the students, have their parents in Mexico, and at times see them only once a week. It is hard to cross the border every Monday morning, and stay motivated to do their very best. However, these students have the best attitude towards their education regardless of their hurdles.
My sixth graders are there for each other and show compassion towards each other while they miss loved ones back home.
The students see each other as a "Familia" and encourage each other inside the classroom and outside in the playground. They truly value their education and know the price their parents are paying to come to the states for a chance of the American Dream.
My Project
It is inevitable to keep students from learning new technology as it is everywhere and a required skill in this 2st century. However, it is crucial that students, especially those who are Second Language Learners get to interact with others face to face. These Kagan supplies ordered will help emphasize not only the language content, furthermore making it fun to learn and interact with each other.
Setting a fun and safe environment in the classroom helps build language, build self-esteem and understand content.
This is why Kagan plays an important role in the classroom, as it has proven that interaction with the teacher and students provides positive feedback.
Students look forward to working into groups when a classroom is fully equipped to aid in their learning, it is the students who lead the conversation, however materials enhance that.
