This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most mornings I spend the first few minutes checking in with each student to see where their school brain is. Are they hungry, sad, angry, or embarrassed? What can I do to put that first smile on their face and switch their brain into a learning mode?
My students are a group of hard-working kids who encounter everyday situations most adults could never even dream of.
My school works hard to create a community where all families feel welcome and safe. We have an almost 90% free or reduced-price lunch rate, and most years families don't have the financial means to purchase school supplies.
My Project
Due to a high need in our school, I will be moving down to a lower grade level. I have always prided myself on creating a print-rich classroom, however, most of the classroom library that I have is aimed toward higher elementary grades. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. This classroom library will be a place that my students really enjoy. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have asked students in the lower classes what they're interested in reading and watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
