This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are simply amazing children. They have changed my life so positively. When I go to work, I am the luckiest person to be in the presence of these beautiful people.
Our school is a Title 1 school serving children with special needs in grades 6-8.
My class consists of 12 students with intellectual, learning, emotional and multiple disabilities. Most of the children come from ethnically diverse families whose parents primarily speak their native language. Many of my students are bilingual, which is very impressive to me! But what is even more impressive is that with the many challenges they face, day-to-day; they come to school happy and ready to give it their all, each day.
Unfortunately, we have all been struggling with the pandemic and my students are now learning remotely. Some have not left their home since March. This saddens me as I know first hand how social they are and how much love being in school. Nonetheless, they do not have the essential supplies needed to learn from home. It's the simple things in life that matter. Please help us put a smile back on the faces of our loving, hardworking children by supporting their needs.
My Project
We are not sure what our classroom will look like in the Fall. It is challenging to teach students without the human contact we are used to but it is even more difficult task to do so without essential supplies. My students are often elated by the simplest things and I know they will be extremely thank you for the school supplies. They want to become independent and creative learners; these materials will make all the difference to them.
With these essential materials, the children will be able to cut and paste once again and build, produce and generate creations.
