My students need new instruments, new cases and new bows to replace items that are 30+ years old and not worth repairing anymore.

My Students

My 6th Grade band class at this K-6 elementary school in a large urban district is a unique blend of students. All of my students rely on school owned instruments in order to play in the band and they also rely on the school to supply accessories such as reeds, strings, valve oil, and swabs. The only budget that I receive from the school is whatever the students can pay towards a yearly maintenance fee for using a school instrument. It is challenging at best to make this meager budget last all year, and by January the funds are almost always depleted completely.

This school is a 100% poverty school where children struggle to have school supplies and properly fitting clothes for school every day.

This project will enable my students to continue excelling in their musical studies and allow them to have a positive experience at the same time.

My Project

What do my students want for Christmas? They want shiny new instruments and violin bows! Over 90% of my students at this urban high poverty elementary school use a school-owned instrument and could not participate in band or strings if they had to purchase their own. Help us increase our inventory by two more instruments that will allow two more students to be in band every year for the next 20 years or more. The new violin bows will allow us to retire the bows that are in poor shape and have barely any bow hair left in them. It is more economical in this day and age to purchase new bows versus rehairing the older bows.
