This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What I love about my students is that the fact that even on my worst of days my students can cheer me up instantly, even with a language barrier. One student said just the other day, "Ms., you are my favorite teacher." That made my day.
My students work their hardest and is always enthusiastic in learning new dance techniques and skills.
They always strive for the absolute best. They put their hearts into achieving their goals of winning at local and out-of-state competitions and going everything possible to achieve them. That's all I can ask for.
It's the greatest feeling to see a student improve from last year's dance techniques, work habits, cooperation, dedication, responsibility, hard work, loyalty and goal orientation.
My Project
The award winning VNMS Drill and Dance Team started in 1994. Since then, this program has won over 100 awards from City, Regional, State-wide, and National competitions. It has been instrumental in promoting the self-confidence, self-esteem, and the self-discipline of countless young women. The Program is also instrumental in the development and encouragement of such essential qualities as teamwork, cooperation, commitment, diligence, and perseverance. In working toward a common goal, members have discovered that they must each depend upon one another before they can truly perform as a team. They have learned that spirit and enthusiasm have value. This program develops not only strength and flexibility of one's body, but of one's character and resolve. It challenges the mind of each performer in striving to memorize and perfect an extensive repertoire of moves and routines to music. The program further develops a belief in each student that they can reach a shared goal when everyone supports each member of the class/team and works hard toward the common goal of performing a routine to music. It has provided countless opportunities for leadership roles, creative expression, pride of accomplishments, personal enjoyment, close friendships and bonds.
