My Students
I am a visual arts teacher at a wonderful school that is a kindergarten through second-grade school for the second year. My students are sweet, curious and challenging at times, but there's no place I'd rather be than with my art classes.
My students love to "give back," and we do many community and global projects throughout the year to teach acceptance and kindness, such as blankets for animals at the Humane Society, The Memory Project, and participating in Peace Day.
We have several ideas this year to spread some love.
I have taught art classes for 17 years; ten years at this school. I love every minute of it. Our staff is nurturing, highly qualified, and we care deeply about our students.
My Project
My students annually create fleece blankets for the animals at the local Humane Society.
We try to make these for people that adopt and rescue cats and dogs during February and provide a warm, cozy blanket for each animal adopted.
We are requesting packs of twenty-four blankets which we will cut in half and provide a total of ninety-six, no-sew blankets. Our school is also sponsoring the Humane Society this year as a community helper. They will be providing towels, pet food, money and supplies.
This is an annual project for my art students who have provided blankets for the last seven years. They learn to give back, to help others and show amazing kindness.
I am proud of how excited they are when we deliver on Valentine's Day, baskets of cozy, warm, colorful blankets.
