Help me give my students access to 18 quality puppets to use for engaging and creating music in the K-2 classes. (Although, once the 3-5 students see these, they will want to use them too!)
My students enter the music classroom 1-2 times a week for a total of 60 minutes per week. They enter ready to explore learning in a different way than the usual classroom experience. These students need the break from their regular learning experiences. They need to free their brains and have a break while at the same time learning about music.
The work of children is play.
- Carl Orff
I believe this is true, and we see it every day. Children learn how to cooperate, care, lead, follow, and be the best person they can be every time they play and work with others.
My Project
Using a puppet while teaching music (or any subject) is pure magic. The focus is no longer on the teacher or the student. All pressure is taken off the student; it is the puppet which is creating sound. It's magic. Puppets make students instantly engaged, curious and excited about what is happening. Whether I'm using the puppet to start a song or the students are using the puppets to engage in musical conversations and exploration of musical sounds, it's instant magic. Smiles can be found on all the faces sitting eagerly on the floor. They are hooked. I have been gathering puppets from everywhere but there are some key characters/animals we still need. These 18 puppets will help connect students to the learning in an unobtrusive way. Please help me bring more of this magic to my students.
