My Students

"Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered to them as a precious gift." - Kate DiCamillo I believe that reading is meant to be an enjoyable experience for children. I keep my students engaged in reading by making it a pleasurable experience.

This year I have 24 wonderful students.

Similar to my school, my class is very diverse, with many of my students having the ability to speak multiple languages. Many of the students in my school speak English as their second language, and some of them were born in other countries. In addition to being diverse, my school is a very caring and loving place that is supportive of the needs of the students. They are surrounded by an amazing staff that continuously goes out of their way to not only educate the children academically but to teach the children skills that they will need throughout life.

My Project

This year my students will be participating in Reader's Theater. Instead of the students participating in a traditional Reader's Theater where they are the actors, I will be incorporating the use of puppets into Reader's Theater in order to assist them with understanding point of view, character feelings, and the interactions between characters. The students will be able to utilize the puppets in order to complete these tasks. In addition to understanding point of view, character feelings, and the interactions between characters, they will still gain one of the traditional benefits of Reader's Theater, which is building reading fluency.

Donations to this project will help me get the puppets and seating required to enhance Reader's Theater in my classroom.

My students will be able to interact with the puppets while reading which will add an additional level of excitement about reading.
