This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day, my students face challenges before they enter the school building, ranging from extreme poverty, single-parent households where the parent works multiple jobs, students with incarcerated parents, and many students who live in shelters. 

I have a student who had a hard time during quarantine and did not have a positive outlet for his aggression and he will be continuing his learning remotely.

My Project

I am a Social Worker working with students in the South Bronx seeking funding for one of my students to have a positive way to work out his aggression.

I was in my daily advisory class this morning talking about how students deal with negative feelings, when one of my students shared that he needs to punch it out and when I suggested a pillow, he said it was too soft.

That made me think of my workouts at the gym when I took kickboxing and how good I felt afterwards getting all of my aggression out in a positive way. I wasn't hurting myself or anyone else.

Providing this student a punching bag will give him a target for his aggression in a safe space.
