Pumped About Pioneers

My students need 25 copies of the book "Little House on the Prairie" by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and four craft materials such as wood glue, card stock, plywood, and felt to make their own covered wagons.

I have the privilege of teaching at a public magnet school in an urban area in Indiana. Our school focuses on the multiple intelligences. I teach a 3rd, 4th and 5th grade multi-age, multi-ability class of about 23 students. Our school focuses on project based learning and students are provided with a variety of hands-on, real life projects and experiences.

We have been studying pioneers and as a part of our unit we have been reading from the Little House series. We have been reading the first book as a class, and they want to keep going. My students have an insatiable desire for this book series and learning about pioneer history, and we have very few copies and cannot keep them in the library!

My students would love to have their own copy to read on their own or follow along as I read aloud. To further explore this subject my students would like to construct their own covered wagons. In order for the pioneer experience to come alive we need 25 copies of Little House on the Prairie, one for each child to keep as well as art materials to measure and build their own wagon!

You will make it possible for my students to further explore their passion for reading and the history of the pioneers.
