Puget Sound: Our Fragile Ecosystem

My students will need a Water Test Kit, a Plankton Net and 2 digital flip camcorders.

This project is fully funded

My classroom is only minutes from the breathtaking waters of Puget Sound. I capitalize on this by teaching a complex unit on marine biology to my fourth and fifth grade highly capable students. This multidisciplinary unit encompasses ecosystems, classification and environmental education.

I would like to increase the environmental education component of this unit. We take several outdoor field trips and I would like my students to take water samples and monitor/compare the water quality in different ecosystems. I would also like my students to write and produce their own video on the importance of clean water to the ecosystem. These videos will be shared with other classrooms in the district and on YouTube.

I will need a water testing kit and a plankton net for sampling and monitoring. I will also need two flip video cameras for the students to use to make their own videos.

Your donation will insure that my students will learn about their environment and become advocates for its preservation.
