Publishing Station for Our Leaders of Tomorrow!

My students need a publishing station that will allow them to print their work, collaborate on group projects, and support their creative drive. They need an Apple Mac mini, LED TV, printer, etc.

My Students

I have the privilege of teaching a special group of 6th graders this year. These are caring and responsible students who need your support to initiate the change that they would like to see in their future. This year, my students are starving to reach larger and more authentic audiences with their work. They have ideas that they are eager to share with their community and the world.

Diversity consciousness is a topic that my students would like to explore and address this year.

In our community, diversity is scarce. My students fear that this may lead to lack of awareness, and most importantly, tolerance. They have a lot to say, but limited resources for sharing this information on a larger scale. For this reason, they have requested that I set up this project in hopes of being given the opportunity to prove that children can make a difference when provided with the proper tools.

My Project

This station will bring students together and support their collaboration on meaningful projects. It will also allow them to create projects that can be shared on digital platforms and with large audiences. This will be a workstation that can accommodate small groups, while also being large enough to use for whole class activities. The Vizio 40" television will be used as the screen for our workstation computer. Its grand size will make it easy for groups to work on the same project without having to squeeze in front of a small computer screen. The Apple Mac mini with a wireless mouse and headset will be the brain of our computer, and will allow students to transfer materials from their devices easily via Airdrop and access iMovie. Since this station will be shared by 70 students, and many more in the years to come, this station will be set up on the Correll Heavy Duty Work Station to ensure its longevity and durability.

The printing capabilities that the Epson Expressions ET printer will offer the students will allow them to prepare content and materials that they can share with their peers, parents, and the community.

Since this is going to be a printer that the students will use regularly, I made selecting one with an eco tank a priority. With this printer, we will not have to worry about limiting our use of the printer due to the high cost of ink cartridges. It will also offer them the wireless printing opportunity that they need so that they can print from their individual devices.
