My Students
Each year, I loop with my students to 5th grade after being with them in 4th. I teach 2 blocks of reading and writing. My classroom is filled with a diverse student population. Ethnicities are numerous and poverty is high.
However, the kids don't see these statistics nor do they care, which is just how I like it.
We come together from all walks of life to LEARN! We enrich each others' lives just by being ourselves. We read about friendship, adventure, love, and even pain. We write about our experiences and emotions. We devour words and spill them out again.
My Project
After every unit of brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing, we publish our writing. No matter the genre, its always nice to utilize special materials once students have reached this stage. Colored paper and plenty of sharpened pencils makes this step in their 'long' journey more rewarding. With the jumbo magnetic sheet of paper, students can see exactly how to format their paragraphs. During the publishing stage we also create illustrations to match our pieces. Their imaginations are so vivid. The number of colors at their fingertips should be proportionate. These colored pencils are dual-tipped, so double the colors in half the space! Bring on the party!
