Providing realistic experiences in Chemistry and Forensics
Help me give my students an extra magnetic molecular modeling kit to support conceptual understanding of compounds in chemistry. Provide my forensic science students with real "fake" blood and ink pads to perform blood spatter analysis and fingerprinting.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach Chemistry and Forensic Science to high school students. I aim to provide standards-based lessons through realistic experiences. For my students in Chemistry, I often use simulations and manipulatives to help understand concepts that are too abstract. Using molecular models in physical and digital forms provides instructional support for better understanding of concepts.
In my forensics class, I try to use realistic experiences that would help students visualize what it's like to be a forensic scientist.
Using fake "real" blood and inkpads for blood spatter and fingerprinting will provide realistic experiences.
