My Project
The students in my moderate special education classroom face unique challenges, and for many, these challenges are compounded by economic hardship. Located in [mention your city/region], our school serves a significant population of families experiencing low socioeconomic status. As a result, some of my students may not consistently receive adequate nutrition at home.
Hunger and lack of access to nutritious food can significantly impact a student's ability to learn, concentrate, and regulate their behavior.
In a special education setting, where students may already face difficulties with attention, communication, and emotional regulation, consistent access to snacks and drinks can make a crucial difference. Providing these resources ensures students have the energy needed to participate actively in lessons, benefit from therapeutic interventions, and engage positively with their peers.
Furthermore, individually wrapped snacks serve an important practical purpose within our school's health and safety guidelines. This format allows for easy and hygienic distribution, minimizing the risk of contamination and adhering to current school policies. Edible reinforcers are also a vital component of our positive behavior support system, motivating students and reinforcing desired behaviors in a tangible and immediate way. Juice pouches/boxes offer a hydrating option that is easy for students to manage independently.
