Providing Basic School Supplies to All Second-Grade

My Students
The second-grade students of PS 42 are English as second language learners who do not interact with the English language beyond our school. This upcoming year, I will be teaching Special Education in addition to my English as a second language population. We are a Title I school, which means that my children, nearly all of my learners, are currently living below the poverty line. These students are hardworking and miss being in school with their teachers and friends. In order to truly help them and their families during this pandemic, I want to provide them with basic school supplies. With these donations, you are providing an underprivileged population of NYC students to school supplies which will help prepare them for the upcoming school year.
My Project
I am requesting basic classroom essentials such as pencils, pencil sharpeners, pencil pouches, and folders to help all upcoming 2nd-grade students prepare to learn on the first day of school in September. Since all of the students and their families are dealing with financial hardship due to COVID-19, it will be very difficult for them to come prepared with the necessary classroom supplies this fall. That is why I would like to request these basic essentials so my students will have less to worry about on their first day back to school and can instead focus on learning in this difficult time that we are living in.
Having basic classroom supplies on the first day of school will make a huge difference to my students and their families affected by the pandemic.
These classroom basics will provide a huge boost for my students to start off the year.
